Personal Mission

And she’s on a mission…

Compelling communication can do a lot—birth democracies, end wars, reconcile families or get your money back. In all of my writing, I consider who the most unlikely audience would be to read the piece, and strive to swoon them. I believe that writing can serenade any reader, and it’s my job to figure out exactly which notes to hit to make that happen.

I love playing with the conventions of a genre, to explore how language and form can stretch the boundaries of our thinking. While my writing has touched on everything from the rights of transgender prisoners to The Fast and the Furious franchise, I keep the following questions in mind, no matter the piece:

01. How can i make this interesting to a wide audience?

02. How can i make this fun to read?

03. How can I pack this full of information?

04. How does this challenge and expand our understandings of each other?

I have a B.A. in Travel Writing and Social Advocacy, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. In addition to writing, I have edited book-length manuscripts, conducted research for a cultural theorist, and taught writing and rhetoric at Emerson College. I have extensive experience in teaching and working in multiple modalities, and even founded a storytelling slam series.
